What Can You Expect From this Blog?
You’re a busy person, so I’m going to get straight to the point. I’m a novice blogger.
Sure, I’ve written countless blog posts for clients, but I’ve never written a blog as, or for, myself.
And in truth, that’s not what I’m doing now. Because this blog is for you.
It’s here to:
- Answer any questions you have about freelance writing and working from home
- Prevent you from making the same mistakes I did
- Give you the benefit of of my 10 years’ experience in the industry
So if you have a burning question, leave me a note in the comments section or via the contact page, and I’ll do my best to answer your query. But for now, while I’m still learning, I plan to feature the type of content that I would have liked to see when I was first starting out.
Over the coming months, you can expect to see posts about copywriting, freelance writing, working from home, social media and everything in-between.
To start with, there will be one new blog post every week. Then once I’ve got a few under my belt, the posts will become more sporadic.
After that, I’ll be writing sneaky ninja blog posts that creep up on you out of nowhere, just to mix things up and make sure you’re paying attention.
This is my blogging experiment, and I’d love for you to be a part of it.
You can be Pierre to my Marie Curie. But the blogging version. And without anyone dying from radiation exposure, obviously.
Actually forget that, look upon it instead as a blogging quest, like a less exciting version of Lord of the Rings – a Lord of the Blogs, if you will.
So, if you have a question or something specific you’d like to see featured, get in touch. And if I can share something of use or value, then you can expect to see your idea featured in a future post.
Let’s embark upon this blogging experiment/quest-thingy together.

Twitter: Supportive Community or Human Cesspit?
Back in the dark days of 2017, I was unenlightened enough to believe that social media was the work of the devil. What was wrong with people, and why were they so intent on sharing their lives with strangers on the internet? I could only imagine that some evil curse...
The Golden Rule of Copywriting
I hate to be the one to break it to you, but there isn’t one. No golden rule. No Holy Grail. No silver bullet. Just a bunch of people, like me, who are making it up as they go along. Now, that doesn’t mean there isn’t tonnes of good advice on copywriting out there....
The Freelance Field of Delusional Dreams
When I first built my website, I thought it would be a ‘Field of Dreams’ type deal, as in “If you build it, they will come”. Turns out I was wrong, about that as well as the quote. (Because, as any self-respecting film buff will know, the quote is actually "If you...
In Celebration of a Simple Life
I don’t know about you, but I’m sick of people telling me how I should be living my own damn life. Wow. That’s a bit of an angry way to start a blog post, so let me put it another way: There’s so much pressure on all of us nowadays to ‘be the best we can be’ and...
Working from Home — The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
There’s a lot of talk about working from home these days, especially since the pandemic decided to rear its ugly mug. But even before that, thanks to the wonders of modern technology, more people were already choosing to abandon the traditional nine to five in favour...
Smurfs, Alcopops and Freelance Copywriting
When I first stumbled into freelance copywriting, I had no idea what I was doing. I knew I wanted to be a writer, but had no idea how to go about it. I was 26 and a secondary school dropout. I’d just quit the latest in a short line of part-time jobs that I wasn’t much...
Why I’d Rather Deep-Fry My Own Hand than Work for Another Content Mill
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to work for a content mill? Well, I’m going to share something I found while tidying up my computer files. It’s a short piece that I wrote when I was working for one particular content mill, which shall remain nameless. It was...
How Writing Flash Fiction Makes Me a Better Copywriter
Shortly after joining Twitter at the beginning of 2018, I discovered the Twitter writing community and the delightful and curious world of flash fiction and Very Short Stories. Very Short Stories is a daily writing exercise open to writers of any genre. Each day, the...
Confessions of a Recovering Twitterphobe
Until January of 2018, I wasn’t a fan of social media. As an introverted writer, I couldn’t think of anything worse than talking to a bunch of strangers about what I’d had for lunch that day. I’d joined LinkedIn a few years before and found that was about as far into...
